What you'll do

Measure, examine, and explore the physical properties of the Earth, from the depths of the oceans to the tops of volcanoes.

Where you'll work

Usually for oil and gas companies or environmental organisations. Most of your work will take place on computers in offices, but you will spend some time outside, perhaps on oil rigs or mines, or out on the ocean.

Salary range

£28,000 – £100,000+

Skills you'll need

  • Strong grasp of sciences, especially physics
  • Must have a curious mind and a fascination with natural phenomena
  • A head for understanding and analysing data also help
